Walk-Up Medical Clinic
Architecture - Industrial Design - Human Factors Study - Materials Technology
Background
Health Care accessibility is a chronic problem within the U.S. from both a cost and insurance standpoint, as well as ease of access. Our challenge was to create a walk-up medical clinic design with a built-in digital medical record system and refrigerated pharmaceutical storage–while meeting HIPPA compliance standards. These clinics focus on treating minor illnesses by nurse practitioners and offers health and wellness services to customers 12 months or older at an affordable fee.
Objectives
- Design a 150-square foot modular clinic design that could be deployed in airports, grocery stores and pharmacies
- Design the proper tools so that a HCP can provide a patient with a high quality of care and privacy
- Isolated HEPPA air filtration handling system
- Digital communication and registration system, secure temperature-controlled pharmacological storage, and was ADA and HIPAA compliant
Solution
We designed the clinic system so that it could be assembled in 12 hours by a two man team. The digital communications system was VOIP and HD video enabled so that a remote consult can occur. The clinic design is modular, clean, sleek, and modern yet did not feel temporary. Privacy glass, curtains, and sound abatement including active noise masking, provide a private and secure environment for patient comfort.
The nurse Practitioner who staffs the clinic has a work areas for doing data entry and intake interviews. All surfaces are antimicrobial and UV sanitizing lights bathe the clinic interior during off hours.
The exterior for the clinic has integrated digital signage and sign-in registration panels so that a patient can sign-in and be notified of wait times and receive a TXT message when they are ready to be seen. The entire clinic is locked and secured during off hours protecting information and pharmaceuticals inside.
The clinics are currently in trials throughout 5 US states.
